Good News!
Last academic year, September 2010 to July 2011, Osmani managed to achieve the second highest attendance across the whole of Tower Hamlets primary schools.
This is thanks to all members of the school community working together to improve children’s attendance and we would like to say a massive Thank You to all parents and children who did so much to help us.
However, as you know, Osmani does not like being second best at anything so we would like to do everything we can to ensure that next year we are the best across Tower Hamlets.
The biggest areas of concern are:
- Children taking holidays in school time. Not only does this significantly impact on the school’s attendance figures, but we are also concerned about the impact it has on children when they return to school. We have become increasingly concerned about the length of time it takes children to not only catch up with the other children in their class, but also the length of time it takes for them to get back to the level of attainment they were when they went on holiday.
- Attendance before and after Eid. Although the school closes for Eid, the data shows that there is a significant decrease in attendance before and after the Eid holiday. The school always celebrates Eid with a party on the day after, which we know that the children really look forward to. This year the closure for Eid is 7th November 2011. Please do all you can to ensure your child is back in school on Tuesday 8th November 2011.
- Children in Early Years and Year 1 and 2. The attendance of the younger children is considerably lower than those in KS2. We would never keep a child in school who we felt was unwell, but please do all you can to make sure they attend everyday. The rule is that is they are well enough to play with toys or watch television, they should be in school. We will be holding focussed workshops on attendance for all parents. If ever you are not sure, either Thofur or Jo are in school from 7.30am so please phone and we can help you to decide whether you should bring your child in.
Lets all work together to try and make Osmani’s attendance the best ever this year.
